Next hydrangea meeting
set for Wednesday, Aug. 18,
6 p.m.

Our next meeting is all about drying hydrangea blooms -- look out!  My kitchen right now looks like a mad scientists' lab. :)  We've got the old-fashioned air drying method, I'm using the microwave, silica gel crystals -- you name it!  I'm also going to try dyeing some blooms, which sounds easy in theory, but you can see the result of my (hopefully not tragic) experiments on Wed., Aug., 18, at 6 p.m. at Sugar Creek Gardens in Kirkwood.

For more information, contact Kim Reiss at
314-954-7501 (The Hydrangea Hotline), or info@stlouishydrangeasociety.org

Here's a link to Kim's hydrangea blog postings on the Sugar Creek Gardens blog.

Here's some advice from P. Allen Smith on drying hydrangeas.

And a completely different drying method from www.hydrangeashydrangeas.com/dryingnat.html

Thanks to everyone who participated in the hydrangea tour -- it was a big success, despite the heat and the stress on all our gardens this summer.

I hope to have pictures posted to the website shortly.

"They can't be spies. Look what she did with the hydrangeas!"

A funny article from the Raleigh, N.C., News & Observer about the recent Russian spy controversy -- and hydrangeas.  Alleged spy Anna Chapman had the spy nom de guerre "Miss Hydrangea."  I should be so lucky..

Random acts of kindness mystery girl started it all with a hydrangea blossom

An inspirational article about a woman in Pittsburgh who started a year-long campaign of random acts of kindness...
